Linde Freya Tangelder’s visionary approach to furniture design finds its new home in the revamped gallery space of Destroyers/Builders, a design studio that strives for sensory relevance and cultural value in detail and larger scale. The new studio is more than a mere showcase of collections, it’s a convergence point for collaborations with various galleries and the birthplace of self-initiated furniture pieces from Destroyers/Builders. Within the unfinished walls of the house, several sculptural furniture pieces by Linde Freya Tangelder find their place.
Nestled amidst the rural and hilly landscape of Asse, just outside of Brussels, Linde Freya Tangelder discovered an architectural gem designed by renowned architect Jozef Lietaert. Instantly, she felt an affinity between this house and her creative ethos in the architectural context, the use of raw materials and the architectural language, which creates a simple intimacy. Teaming up with her partner, landscape architect Jo Groven, Tangelder forged a refuge where their practices harmonize. A space where landscape architecture, interior design, and design pieces seamlessly fuse.
The studio, housed within a low-volume structure crafted from reddish bricks reminiscent of artist Per Kirkeby’s sculptures, invites exploration into curved walls, refined materiality, and small corners, mirroring Tangelder’s design fundamentals. Stripping the house to its core revealed its essence—a main space transformed into an exhibition hub where Tangelder's creations take center stage. A wood-casted concrete ceiling interplays with brushed aluminium and massive oak, echoing the dominant materials in her sculptural furniture.

Founded in 2014, Destroyers/Builders embodies an artistic synergy where furniture pieces interact, drawing inspiration from architectural elements, materials and building techniques. Linde Freya Tangelder, founder of the studio, strives for sensory relevance and cultural value in detail and larger scale, balancing sculptural and architectural aspects by revaluing, reconsidering and transforming materials. Inspired by architectural shapes, the furniture pieces highlight the field between industry and human through diverse materials. The contrast in materials, the touchability and the human traces that are still visible in the object, explain the method of Destroyers/Builders.
The studio’s mission revolves around integrating their works into specific spatial contexts, initiating dialogues between architectural spaces and the objects they inhabit. Destroyers/Builders takes on projects that range from commissions to self-initiated projects, and extend across the realms of both architectural furniture and interior projects.
