Alana Wilson’s pieces highlight the importance of expression, gesture, movement and bodily presence

Alana Wilson is an Australian-born and New Zealand-raised artist who expresses herself through ceramics, sculpture, photography and printmaking. The environments of her childhood have had a very big impact on her creations by taking a closer look to nature and the connection each of us has with our natural surroundings. Natural, biographical, art historical and anthropological sources result in her pieces being inherently visceral, intimate and tactile.

After a combination of investigating resources, experimenting with materials and philosophical enquiry, she creates visual and conceptual lineage across all of her mediums and processes, manifesting the bond between humans and their environment. Her oeuvre seeks to allude to the macrocosm of all and the interconnectedness of all life, from the intimate to the universal.

In 2022, the works of Alana Wilson are exhibited in Potter’s House, an artist retreat on the island of Mallorca by Luciano Giubbilei. “The ceramics for Potter’s House highlight the importance of expression, gesture, movement and bodily presence”, she says. By leaving more gestural impressions within the surfaces of the pieces, she strives to highlight nuances of the process so that the works become about touch, feel and humanity, rather than just a functional form.
