Casa Maiora, an architectural statement in Puglia with simplicity at its core
Designed by Spanish multidisciplinary Studio Andrew Trotter, Casa Maiora is a four-bedroom private villa located near the coast of Carovigno, Puglia. Based on the belief that any design should belong to the place where the project is built, Casa Maiora was inspired by Puglia’s coastal villas with grand colonnades and earth-toned walls. The project was executed with local materials, such as lime wash made by a local artisan to preserve the techniques and traditions of Puglia villas. The house was placed at the most southern border to take advantage of the elevated level, and to achieve the best views possible of the sea which is only a stone’s throw away.
All of Studio Andrew Trotter’s designs hold simplicity at heart, and Casa Maiora was no exception. As you enter the house, it feels like a villa set high above its walled terraces, proud on a hill, an architectural statement with simplicity at its core. The interior with large open spaces contain many windows to capture stunning panoramic views over the Carovigno landscape, allowing the sun to enter and warm up the house. A mix of built-in furniture and locally found antiques decorate the spaces supplemented by warm earthy tones throughout the entire interior.
