At Milan Design Week 2022, Unno Gallery unveiled their exhibition ‘Volume, The Land and The Maker’. UNNO is a digital art & design gallery born from the encounter between Maria Dolores Uribe and Abe Vettoretti, rooted in Latin American culture. Aiming to promote a new way of presenting art and design, UNNO reconciles the centuries old wisdom of local artisans with the creative potential of contemporary artists.
UNNO also announced the representation of one of the most prominent architects in Mexico, multifaceted design studio Habitación116, with their series of works “Lava”. Habitación116 aspires to promote the rich Mexican design legacy, carrying out a detailed study on functionality in combination with the careful hand of local craftsmen. Rooted in constant historic and conceptual research, the renowned design studio narrates a sensitive consistency of contemporary Mexican aesthetic. The “Lava” series is inspired by the “El Pedregal” neighborhood in Mexico City, a volcanic landscape area famously known for one of the greatest modernist masterpieces “Casa Pedregal” by architect Luis Barragan. The color theme of “Lava” is based on 5 different colors and hues of the Mexican Altiplano and volcanic rocks. “Lava” consists of a series of work such as a chair, a butaque, two stools and other architectural elements.
With respect for craftsmanship, each of the pieces contain the initials of the artisan who made the piece, showing commitment to the hands that made their work possible.
