DEGLAN merges art, design and craft in Chi Chi Club in Hamburg, an innovative reconstructive beauty clinic
Merging art, design and craft, DEGLAN is a multidisciplinary collaborative firm founded by Berlin’s artist-architect duo Domenic Degner and Falko Landenberger. The duo creates hand-crafted, collectible design items and unique interiors, merging them into a symbiotic Gesamtkunstwerk, a total work of art. Their approach is to design objects and interiors that merge playfulness and warmth together with calmness and authenticity, always toying with the notion of minimalism.
For Chi Chi Club, an innovative aesthetic reconstructive beauty clinic in Hamburg, DEGLAN was approached to turn the 200m2 space into a warm and welcoming atmosphere. DEGLAN decided to eliminate fixed walls and doors to improve overall communication and to foster a collaborative work environment. In addition to the open and accessible spaces, private areas suitable for treating local and international clients, spaces for training classes and retreats for staff members were created. Therefore the main design principle was to place functional modules throughout the space to organise and layer the floorplan. Areas were divided into a public reception to semi-public treatment areas with private spaces clustered around.
Upon entering Chi Chi Club, guests are greeted by a sitting corner featuring a large asymmetrical coffee table designed and crafted by DEGLAN. The purpose of the table is an informal reception desk, where sit-down classes are held and small objects can be exhibited. The lounge space serves as the antithesis to sterile waiting areas, luring clients and staff alike to get comfortable and feel welcomed in a home-like setting.
